Shares News of the African Friends in Need Network (AFINNET)

On Tuesday, May 16 at 7 pm, Bishop George Sinabulya from the Anglican Church of Uganda returned to the Diocese of Minnesota and spoke with St. Johns parishioners about his African Friends in Need Network (AFINNET).

One of the projects he discussed was AFINNET's women empowerment programs. Women who are unmarried or have lost their husbands have few options other than prostitution to support themselves and their children. AFINNET tries to  empower them by training them in the dress making trade, making them self-supporting and freeing them from the sex trade and prostitution. Money is needed on an on-going basis for sewing machines for the training center -- for as women graduate, they are given a sewing machine from the center so they can continue their new skill and remain self-supporting.

Contributions for the work of the African Friends in Need Network (AFINNET) can be made through St. John's. Please indicate on the memo line of the check that the contribution is for AFINNET.
