Taking Jesus Seriously:

Buddhist Meditation

For Christians

Sponsored by the Episcopal House of Prayer

become quiet, find peace, wake up

Jesus said: "The reign of God is right in front of you and you do not see it." This course both explains the meaning of Jesus' authenticated sayings and presents the Buddhist method for seeing and living God's reality but in a Christian context.

Twelve weekly sessions. Must attend eight. Daily meditation expected. Material is presented by e-mail. Donations accepted at each class in lieu of tuition. Each week you may attend at any one of the following four times and locations:

  • St. Anne's Sunfish Lake (West St. Paul): (Charlton Rd and Highway 110) Sundays at seven in the evening. First class September 28th.

  • University Episcopal Center (17th Avenue and 4th Street SE). Thursdays at four in the afternoon. First class October 2nd.

  • St. Christopher's Roseville: (NE corner Hamline and Highway 36) Thursdays at seven in the evening. First class October 2nd.

  • Cathedral of St. Mark: (South Side of Loring Park) Saturdays at nine-thirty in the morning. First class October 4th.

Classes occur at these locations at the same time each week. Students may vary attending locations and times for convenience. Former students may sit with the class at any time without registration. Classes last one hour and are about half meditation and half question and answer based on the reading assignment.

For further information contact the instructor: Fr. John Cowan. To register, mail the fifty-dollar registration fee, your name, phone number, and e-mail address to
