COMMUNICATIONS COMMITTEE

As this year begins, the Communications Committee is reflecting on all the changes that have transpired at St. John in the Wilderness over the past year.  A year ago we were initiating the search process, maintaining the services and basically getting along.  After scrambling to find a new warden late in the year, it was business as usual.  Sherri Afryl and Dianne Del Giorno immediately stepped up to the challenges of leading the church.

Throughout the year each of them as a team has done so much more than either would have done individually.  They participated in most committee meetings; they volunteered time and energy if there were gaps in committee leadership.  Sherri hosted numerous gatherings to meet rector candidates.  They found time to publish articles about our search process, they met every candidate for a meal, throughout all of this, they provided the leadership that we needed.  More importantly, by example, they made us all go the extra mile.

I don’t know where Sherri and Dianne found so many hours in the day to perform their regular jobs and to work tirelessly for the church.  St. John in the Wilderness is in an entirely different place one year later, and a large part of the credit for the change goes to the commitment and leadership of our two wardens.

Communications is about taking the time to say “Thank You”.  Your committee would like to thank them for the great gift they gave to St. John’s.  Without their leadership, we would not be the forward-looking parish that we are today.
